It takes Peter several days to come by Harry's place again, and when he does it's only because MJ pushed him. He doesn't say so but Harry knows because Harry always knows things like that. Things that hurt him, destroy him. He knew that there was something wrong with Peter and Spiderman, he knew that his friend would chose his father's murderer over him. He just didn't fully understand how.

Now he does.

Peter appears as Spiderman, jumping through the window and landing right in front of Harry's feet. It startles and angers him, but that is nothing new now, he's always angry since he removed that damned mask. Harry backs away and gives his…friend a look of distrust. “Peter.’

Peter nods, Spiderman nods, and for a moment Harry feels like throwing the glass he's holding at the costumed boy. “Visiting me between murdering another father and fucking MJ?’

There are wide eyes behind the mask now and Harry thinks he will start to laugh any minute now. Why didn't he notice? That are Peter's eyes behind this mask, a boy's eyes, not a superhero's.

A murderer's eyes.

A friend's eyes.

Harry pushes his thoughts back and faces Spiderman again. Peter.

“I didn't want to kill him.’ Peter's voice sounds like himself now, a bit weak, a bit too eager and very scared. But it's not enough to make Harry believe him, but it could be enough to make him forgive him. Because maybe there was a reason for his father's death, maybe he had been the Green Goblin more than Peter was Spiderman. Maybe Peter could make him believe.

“You didn't want to? And still you did. This is what matters. You did kill him.’

Finally Peter removes the mask and stands in front of him like he did when Harry found out about him and Spiderman and the hundred ways his friend had betrayed him.

“I'm sorry. I know this doesn't help you much but I'm sorry. And I…I want to make this right again, I want…’

The sirens going off not too far away stopped him. “Harry. I need to go. I…Sorry.’

It almost amuses him how often Peter uses that word now.

“I'll be back soon. I swear. We'll talk.’ With that Peter puts the masks back on and Spiderman jumps right of Harry's window to save the day.

He looks after him for a while, watches Spiderman turn into an action figure that swings between toy houses.

“Be back. Make me believe.’ The little figure vanishes at the horizon.

Peter does not return. Some days later his face and the word "Spiderman" in big letters are splashed all over New York's newspapers. It takes him only hours to appear in front of Harry's door.

He opens it with a smile and turns around, leaving Peter there. His friend follows him in, his steps predator like at his heels.

"I should have noticed"

"Yeah, you should have"

But what?

I hate you. I'll betray you, I would and damn I did. I hate you. God, I miss you. I miss you so much.

Harry finally turns to face his friend.

I love you, you bastard and I want you to die.

And he knows that Peter hadn't noticed at all.
